The Boat

She's a Sailing Ship!

Asunto – Catalina Morgan 50

Asunto

Asunto is a Catalina Morgan 50 that was built out of the Catalina Morgan factory in Florida. She started production in 2003 and was completed in 2004 as Hull number 10.

She started the first part of her life on the Great Lakes up in Michigan and as far as we can tell, spent the majority of her time as a party boat going out for day sails (or motors) and coming back to the slip at night. We think this because of the large amount of canvas work on the boat, the large outdoor cushion built for the foredeck similar to those found on power boats, and the fact that there were barely any hours on the engine and generator.

Her next owner decided to transpose her from her gentle lake life and move her half way across the country to the Pacific North West. At this point she had the name Beluga, however we are not sure when that name was applied. Her new owners then took her on a trip north through the BC coast and up to Alaska for at least one season while they explored the inside passage. After a some time plying the Pacific North West, Beluga’s owners decided to head to warmer climates and put her up for sale.

She was for sale out of Bellingham for a number of months until she was moved down to Lake Union to the show dock of Marine Service Center where we ultimately found her. Although not what we were originally looking for, we fell in love with the great layout and spacious liveaboard accommodations and soon had an offer in place.

In February of 2011, we took possession, only 2 months after first starting to look for a new boat, and started making arrangements to move her home a couple of hundred miles north to Vancouver, BC.
